Since 1978, Absecon Mills has been designing and manufacturing contract upholstery fabrics for various industries. Since 2009, AMI has diversified into technical fabrics used in ballistics and other specialty fabrics mainly for the US Military, Law Enforcement and Department of Homeland Security, as well as private security. These fabrics are Berry Amendment protected, restricted to U.S. Manufacturers. In the last 3 years, Absecon has invested in R&D for technological advantages in preparation for entering this market in 2013.

In 2009, Absecon identified in the ballistics market an opportunity to apply its technological know how in weaving and specialty fabrics and to leverage its existing relationships at various levels within the government.
Since then, Absecon has actively developed unique weave designs and hybrid structures for this market. Absecon has successfully passed the rigorous scrutiny to be awarded research funding from the Office of Naval Research. Through this research, as well as the company’s own, Absecon has shown it can provide the best available protective solution with greatly reduced weight and cost efficiency.
